Kelvin Chikumbirike is a qualified science teacher and the director of Marianne Decher Arts trust. He is seeking for sponsorship to go and teach Marimba and Mbira in August this year, in United state of America (Oregon). This will take place at the upcoming Zimfest which will be on 8th till the 11th.

Marianne Decher Arts Trust is a registered organization. Its main focus is to assist people living with disabilities, the orphaned, homeless children and adults living in the streets. It also focuses on other vulnerable members of the society and convicted people in prisons and other correctional facilities in Harare.

MDAT helps to teach people on how to play and make marimba and mbira. Also it educates different communities on many other artistic skills , such as drawing and bead making.

In addition it supports and volunteers for people affected with HIV/ AIDS in collaboration with other organizations, whose thrust and themes are with the disabled.

In an interview with Zim Talks TV, this bright and promising mind said,

“In September of 2017 I established a mbira/marimba band known as ZimGwenyaMbira family. We taught and performed at weddings and other social gatherings and functions. We also entertained people in places like, Restaurants,Hotels,Spar rainbow run and HIFA 2017”

Kelvin has applied to teach and play Marimba and Mbira at Zimfest in Oregon in the United states of America from the 8-11 of August and have been accepted.He said his participation in this event will help him gain an lot of exposure and establish networks which will benefit the organization he has established.It will give him experience and knowledge that will help him enhance the support that will help vulnerable people back home. It will be also a good platform for cultural exchange.
Zimfest is an annual event which is held at the University of Oregon in America. A group of teachers are selected from Zimbabwe to carry traditional instruments and culture workshops.
